Buyer's frequently asked questions

Q: What can I expect to spend money on besides the actual property purchase price?

A: Things like legal expenses, solicitors' fees, conveyancer's fees and any surveys that you may require to provide enough information on the condition of the property.

Q: What is the best mortgage I could get?

A: Broadly speaking there are two different types of mortgage: repayment and interest only. The efficiency of the two depends entirely on your financial circumstances. Please visit our partners section for more information about mortgages.

Q: Is it okay if I take pictures on a viewing?

A: This is actually a very good idea and it can assist you in selection process, but for the sake of etiquette ask the seller's permission before snapping away.

Q: How important is it to know the state of the property market?

A: This information could prove very useful. For example, if it is a buyers market you could get away with offering less for the property than you first anticipated.

Q: Is a verbal offer legally binding?

A: All offers should be done in writing. If you are serious about the property take the first opportunity to make an offer online through PropertyVisa. The offer can also be printed and a hard copy can be delivered to the vendor. Avoid making verbal offers.

Q: Do I have to pay stamp duty?

A: Yes - more information is provided by the local government (see link to WA Department of Treasury and Finance)

Q: Should I get surveys done on the property?

A: If you have any suspicions about a property you are interested in, or if you just want some peace of mind before purchase, then a survey is a good idea.

Q: How can I contact the property vendor?

A: There are a few ways to do this: Phone the owner directly, send the owner a message using our online message system or if you want to make an appointment immediately - use our "Make appointment" option. This is done by viewing of the vendor's availability on their calendar. You must be registered for this option.
